Turn a broad label into specific questions

β€œEco-friendly” can describe many different choices. For a customer, the useful details are the product, what it is intended to do, whether it suits the surface and how it will be used. A leaf on the packaging is not enough information to make that decision.

Before booking, explain what matters to you: avoiding a particular fragrance, following a floor manufacturer’s care sheet or understanding which products will be brought into the home. Ask the team to confirm what can be accommodated before the appointment.

Read certification claims carefully

EPA’s Safer Choice program helps identify cleaning products with ingredients evaluated against its criteria, along with other product requirements. Certification applies to the specific product. It does not mean that every product from a brand qualifies or that the cleaning business itself is EPA-certified.

Look up the exact product rather than relying on an approximate name. A product choice still needs to fit the task and the material. A label is not permission to ignore directions, use extra concentrate or combine cleaners.

Fragrance is a separate conversation

Tell the team about your fragrance preferences before the visit, including a product you already know you do not want used. Do not assume that a mild smell proves a product is appropriate or that a strong smell means a room is cleaner.

Ask for the actual label if a claim is important to you. EPA offers a fragrance-free Safer Choice label for qualifying products. The presence of a general environmental claim alone does not answer every fragrance question. Medical concerns should be discussed with your clinician; a cleaning service cannot promise a symptom-free home.

Cleaning and disinfecting have different purposes

Routine cleaning removes dirt and impurities. Disinfection is a separate process using an appropriate product according to its instructions. If you request disinfection, agree on the surfaces, product and procedure rather than assuming it is part of every ordinary visit.

CDC emphasizes following the label, including required surface contact time when disinfecting. A quick wipe with a product is not automatically the same as carrying out its disinfection instructions. Do not mix cleaning chemicals. Discuss the actual need instead of adding stronger products simply for reassurance.

Use this booking checklist

  • Name the rooms and materials that need attention.
  • State fragrance preferences or known product restrictions.
  • Ask which products are proposed and what claims their labels support.
  • Confirm whether any requested product is suitable for the surface.
  • Agree on extras, exclusions and the written price.

DM’s product-preference conversation should happen before the visit. For eco-friendly visits you tell us the products you like and provide them, or we buy them for you and hand over the receipt. This guide does not claim that every product used by DM has a particular certification, that all natural products are harmless or that ordinary cleaning removes every contaminant.

Good maintenance also depends on access and routine: clear the surfaces, handle spills promptly and use products as directed between visits. A compatible method used correctly is more useful than an appealing label attached to the wrong task.

Make the next step specific.

Tell us the rooms, their condition and the extras you want included. We will confirm the scope and price before the visit.
